Liquefaction resistance of Christchurch sandy soils from direct simple shear tests

A series of cyclic direct simple shear tests are performed to investigate the liquefaction resistance sandy soils from Christchurch, New Zealand. The study focuses on combined effects soil density and fines content soils. Two sands, a non-plastic silt, their mixtures prepared at different contents tested two sets relative densities. Test specimens reconstituted using procedure for water sedimentation, yielding fabric structure resembling those fluvial deposits. Differences observed between host sands in sensitivity changes density. also seen addition resistances sands. Monotonic undrained employed explore an interpretation within critical state framework. state-concept provides more consistent quantification initial resistance; however, relationship parameter is dependent. results containing up 30% show reasonably estimates empirical CPT-based triggering relationships.
